INTRODUCTION
CAN (Controller Area Network) is a serial bus system especially suited to structure intelligent industry devices networks and build smart automatic control systems. All of our CAN converters let legacy devices and computers without CAN capabilities to be easily included and integrated in CAN networks. Different CAN converter models are available with RS232, RS485 and RS422 input ports.
All CAN converters have CAN 2.0A, CAN 2.0B and ISO-11898-2 compliant CAN ports. CANopen master model has full CiA DS-301 V4.02 ve CiA DSP-401 V2.1 compatibility.
Free software tools are provided for the set-up and test of the CAN convertors. It is also very easy to develope software applications for CAN networks utilizing "Virtual CAN" technology, using our free CAN SDK.

"Virtual CAN" Technology
|
There are various communication interfaces among the CAN devices like PCI CAN board, Ethernet series and RS-232 series CAN module. According to different purpose of user projects, the users may need to choose different CAN products. Because of this situation, programmers should develop different communication programs to handle different CAN devices. ICP DAS developed the "Virtual CAN" technology for easier program development. The Virtual CAN driver is the excellent tool for users. It transforms all CAN devices into Virtual CAN ports and then it generates Virtual CAN port like “VxCAN 1” or “VxCAN 2”. The users could send and receive CAN messages by appointing the Virtual CAN port number. The users do not need to care about what kind of CAN device which is used.

Isolation Between Input / Output and the Power Supply
|
In industrial harsh enverionments, communication over the data lines is disturbed by the noise and ripple signals being induced on these lines. Main cause of these noisy signals is the unwanted electromagnetic fileds in the environment and RS485, RS422 and CAN standards overcome this problem by using differential voltage lines for data signals. However, another cause for these noisy signals are the faulty currents flowing through the data cables due to the different grounding potentials at the two end-points of the data line. This unwanted system is called a "Ground Loop". sometimes this faulty current becomes so high that it is enough to damage the equipment at the two ends of the data line. Escessive surge currents flowing through the data lines during lightning strikes are good examples for these situations. The only way to prevent such damages is to galvanically isolate the equipment attached to the data line. Since same scenairo is also possible for the power lines of these equipment, isolating the power lines also is the best solution.
DC / DC convertors are utilized at the power input and optocouplers are used for the signal lines in order to implement an isolation barrier inside a convertor or repeater. Max voltage difference between the input and output of an isolation barrier that the barrier could withstand without a damage, defines the level of that isolation barrier. Convertors and repeaters we are offering all have an isolation barrier of 3000 Vdc or 3750 Vrms AC. Although our standard models have 2-way isolation, there are also special models available with 3-way isolation.

RS485 Automatic Data Direction Control by "Self-Tuner" Technology
|
"Self-Tuner" is a patented technology solution to the RS485 automatic data direction control where no DIP switch set-up is needed. Using the RS485 ports with "Self-Tuner" ASIC chip support, no special effort is needed for RS485 data direction control. RS485 transceiver will be properly switched between transmit and receive modes by automatically adapting to the data rate and data format being used and an excellent and error-free communicaiton will be performed.
